Union Pacific’s legendary mini-train, arguably the railroad’s most popular Goodwill Ambassador, will make a grand appearance in this year’s Celebrate Council Bluffs Parade in commemoration of the railroad’s 150th Anniversary.
The parade will be held May 19, beginning 10:30 a.m. in the historical Bayliss Park area. The theme of this year’s festival is “CB Won’t You Blow Your Horn,” and the mini-train will lead the parade with the Grand Marshall on board. After the parade, free rides on the mini-train will be available at Bayliss Park for children. Carnival rides and other kids activities also will be available at the park.
The mini-train was built in the Omaha locomotive and rail car shops in 1956. It’s sometimes called “The Pride of Omaha Shops” and has become a favorite at community festivals, making up to 50 appearances a year throughout UP’s 23-state system.
