Des Moines, Iowa's, Iowa State Fair is an international attraction, drawing more than 1 million people annually, and Union Pacific is proud to commemorate its 150 Anniversary Aug. 9-12 at the legendary fair, highlighting railroad history and UP's significant role in building America.
Union Pacific's Steam Locomotive No. 844, the last steam engine built for the railroad, will be on display along with the Promontory, a 1962-vintage baggage car transformed into a state-of-the-art traveling exhibit. The Promontory allows visitors to interact with history via a 65-inch video touch screen highlighting many of the communities the car will be visiting in 2012.
Visitors also will be able to see UP’s mini-train (Aug. 8-9 only), considered its most popular Goodwill Ambassador, and take advantage of free giveaways, such as fans and coloring books. Stop by Union Pacific's booth on the Grand Ave. concourse on Thursday, Aug. 9, and don't miss the opportunity to see the railroad's heritage fleet on display from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. along East Court Ave. & East 32nd Street.
