This year, Union Pacific is proud to participate in North Platte’s annual Rail Fest in celebration of the railroad’s 150th Anniversary and the long-standing bond with the historic city. The three-day event will be held Sept. 14-16, honoring 150 years of Progress, Power and Pride.
On display at Bailey Yard will be the railroad's steam locomotive No. 844, along with its traveling Promontory museum car, and several of UP's specially painted modern locomotives. Additionally, all six Union Pacific heritage units and UP7964, the 5,000th Evolution Series locomotive built by General Electric, will be on display.
To view the equipment, catch a shuttle from Cody Park or the Golden Spike on Friday, Sept. 14, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 15, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., or Sunday, Sept. 16, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
On Sept. 15, Union Pacific will host a celebration at Cody Park from 6-8 p.m. with rides on the Union Pacific mini-train, birthday cake and fireworks after dark.
The public also will receive giveaways, such as railroad pennants.
