Who is eligible?

This contest is open only to legal residents of any one of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia who are 18 years of age or older at time of entry. An entrant registering under the Education Category must be an employee of the college, high school or grade school he or she is representing, and must have full permission from said institution's administration to enter the contest.

Do I have to create an account just to look at videos?

No. But if you want to participate in the rating/"liking" of them, you will need to register with the site.

Why are you holding this competition?

As part of the celebration of Union Pacific's 150th Anniversary, and for fun!

For my entry, can I use video of UP trains if I don't go on UP property?

Yes, as long as you maintain a safe distance from operations (70 ft.) as outlined on the Get Started page.

Can I use video from YouTube or other video sites?

No. The contest requires entrants use only original material that they've created, or what is supplied for use on up150.com. We don't want people to submit content that they did not create or that they don't have copyright control over.

Can I use train photos I find on other websites, such as Google, UP.com or other Union Pacific websites?

Can UP employees use footage shot on company property in their entry?

Union Pacific employees are allowed to shoot footage on or near UP property only with written permission from their supervisor, as well as from the appropriate Operating Department contact at the respective location. Operating permission must come from the director level. Only employees are allowed to participate in videos filmed on company property. All safety rules and precautions must be observed. No video may be shot from moving equipment, including a locomotive. Any video that shows a safety rule violation will be disqualified and employees held responsible. The public is not allowed to videotape anywhere on railroad property.

Rules say you have to be 18 to participate, but can you have people in your video who are younger than 18?

Yes. But remember, the Rules state that you must have permission from all participants in your video. If you have children appear who are not your own, you must have parental/guardian permission.

What can I use in my video?

The sky's the limit! Line drawings, stop-action, animation. Whatever best expresses your originality. Be creative. Have fun!

What do I need to submit?

To enter the contest, you must submit only a video file(s) no longer than 60 seconds in length, which complies with the Official Contest Rules.

When can I submit? What is the closing deadline?

You may enter the Contest between 12:00:00 p.m. (noon) Central Time (“CT”) on November 1, 2011, and 11:59:59 p.m. CT on July 1, 2012 (“Contest Period”). Entries received outside of the submission period will not be eligible for the contest. You are encouraged not to wait until the last minute, due to large file size and heavy traffic on the site. Union Pacific and the Contest are not responsible for upload/technical issues.

When will the winners be announced?

A final judging will be held July 24, 2012, during a live, streamed broadcast held at Union Pacific Center, 1400 Douglas St., Omaha, NE. A link to the broadcast stream will be made available at up150.com

How many videos can I submit?

You may submit up to 10 videos.

What if I don't see my submission on the site?

Entries do not appear in the gallery right away. Videos will go through an initial screening and review process. If there are violations of the rules, your video will be disqualified. Please note that making it into the gallery is NOT a guarantee that your spot complies fully with the Official Rules - it just means that no obvious violations were identified during initial screening. It is also possible that a submission that makes it into the gallery could be removed in the event a rules violation is reported or discovered later.

What are my limitations on music?

You must use the same words and tune as the original commercial. Stylistically, you have free reign – jazz, rock, whatever. You may not include any copyrighted music from an external source. This prohibition includes any royalty-free music and/or music that you may have licensed to use in this contest.

Does my submission have to be High Definition (HD)?

No. HD submissions are accepted, but it is not a requirement.

Will I get an email if my video is accepted/not accepted?

You will get an email either way. If your video is not accepted, we will provide you the reason why.
