My Last Trip on the UP

My Last Trip on the UP

I worked as a Locomotive Engineer for 36 years and I worked out of Sparks, Nev. My last trip was from Sparks, Nev., to Elko, Nev. I called the train dispatcher and asked for a last trip train order. When I got to Elko on my layover I called the MTO and asked for some special treatment on my last trip back to Sparks. I was standing for a BNSF train that operates over the UP line. Unfortunately, I got called for the BNSF train anyway. It was a disappointment that I didn't get called for a UP train. I loved my 36 years on the UP and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I miss all my friends I worked with on the UP. I have a son who is a Manager on the UP in Ft. Worth, Texas. He will have to continue the tradition.

  • The UP shuttles BNSF trains across their territories with UP crews. I just got unlucky on my last run to have caught the BNSF train.
