My uncle Ed (Edward Lang) started with the UP in Pocatello, Idaho, and then was some sort of switchman or foreman on work trains. I can remember in the mid 1940s going to Vale, Ore., to visit with him at the work train for picnics on Sunday afternoons. The whole family would go and spend the day. He later transfered to Glenns Ferry, Idaho, where I think he worked the City of Portland or Portland Rose as a conductor. He had an extensive model railroad set up in his garage in both Nampa, Idaho, and Glenns Ferry, Idaho.
